So…what is the point?

Before we dive into the details of booking travel using credit card points and miles, let’s talk about why you should even consider learning what can seem like a confusing, time consuming, and possibly credit harming process. Why should you bother figuring this stuff out? When I came across credit card reward travel, my exact thoughts were “yeah, that’s too good to be true” and “no thank you, that sounds like too much work.”

I was a registered nurse before having my children but decided to stay home when my first child was born. We have two children and getting to stay home with them has been one of my biggest blessings but being a single income family comes with financial sacrifice. I just figured that not having extra money for vacations was part of the decision we made. Still, I wanted to explore the United States…and the world…with my family. As far as luxury travel, that was no where on my radar. For me, travel isn’t just about the destination. It is about making memories, adventuring, and bonding with my family. That’s what I longed for. So I thought…let’s give this a shot.

I found Instagram accounts that explained how to utilize credit card rewards to travel. They were going to all these amazing places for nearly FREE! I learned how credit card welcome offers could help me earn points on money I was already spending on groceries, gas, and other expenses. I finally understood how credit scores work and why this process does not negatively impact my credit score. My husband…who is an engineer and very skeptical…gave me his blessing to try it out. Once he saw for himself and experienced a luxury trip to Grand Cayman, he was a believer. It takes discipline to not overspend and organization to keep everything in order but I have so many tools to help with this. If traveling is your love language but spending thousands of dollars on flights and hotels before the trip even begins is not…you are in the right place!

Here are a few examples of hotels and flights I have purchased with points and miles…
