Grand Cayman: Flights
We booked 2 round-trip flights directly from our home airport to Grand Cayman with a layover in Houston. The flights were with United and cost us 45,000 points round-trip per ticket. We transferred 90,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to United and then booked directly on the United website.
Some may say this does not maximize our point value because this redemption only gave us a little over 1 cent per point. However, our goal (generally) is to cover flights and hotels with points, so it was worth it to me to spend the points for this redemption. The cash price for each flight was $480 (cost without taxes), so that was $960 that did not come out of our pocket.
Remember, especially starting out, the goal is to get out there! Don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis. The goal is to travel. Maximizing point value for each redemption is great, but don’t let it keep you from taking the trip! As I became more experienced, I learned when and where to use my points to maximize their value. This trip to Grand Cayman made my husband a believer in points and miles which in my opinion is the maximum value you can get for your points!
